Volume Rendering
- Potential energy inside zeolite crystal
- Zeolites important in catalysis
- Displayed using VolumeRender
- Two algorithms:
- Transform - interactive
- Slicer - speed vs quality
- Can't combine other geometry
Combining Geometries
- Electrostatic field around three charged cylinders (+j, -j, +j)
- Displayed in slice using Contour2 (NCSA PATHFINDER module)
- Gradient displayed using VectorDisp (NCSA PATHFINDER module)
- Cylinders created (as Open Inventor geometry) and textured outside Explorer
- Imported using ReadGeom
Radial Depth-cueing
- Mammalian reovirus
- Displayed using IsosurfaceLat
- Surface coloured according to distance from centre of virus
- Uses RadLat (NAG module) - generates lattice of radial distances from origin:
r(R) = | R - R0 |
- Written in the Shape language
Financial Modelling
- Multivariate data as a function of time
- Stored as 1D multichannel lattice (created using ReadPoints and Mixer)
- Ranges calculated using Limits (NAG module)
- Ball displays one variable (mapped to colour) as a function of three others (3D location)
- User can change variables plotted
